15 Minutes - February

 Staff Spotlight: Christy Lin
--- Stevie Chang

As she wakes up in the morning, Christy Lin ponders a single, deep, profound thought:
“…Oh thank God, it was all just a dream….”
It has not been long since I started working with the crew at EAL, and in that short interim I have only met a few of the members, whether on the web or in real life.  Having been given the job of interviewing Christy Lin, our lovely art editor and contributor, I was delighted to use this opportunity to get to know her better.
First impressions are important, and the first thing Christy wants you to know about her is that she can be fun, but serious when she needs to be.  While she can be practical, viewing life through the lenses of a student at college, she also has her mischievous side. Then there are the threes. Three adjectives that do not describe her are logical, religious, and stupid, while three things that annoy her are stupid people, people who think she’s stupid, high frequency sounds.  Obviously with Christy, stupidity will not be tolerated! (unless it's all in good fun, of course)

Being a student, Christy finds herself busy with classes at her art school – something which colors many aspects of her life.  Her least favorite color at this moment is gray—no thanks to long and boring work on value scales—and she has a slight (or according to Sarah, manic) purple fetish.  As for free time… well, that’s a different matter.  Luckily she has enough time to pull out of her schedule for us, though!  Meanwhile, twelve years into the future, she hopes her life involves a good looking man and a job.

A student at a rigorous college myself, I can understand a little of Christy’s life.  In order to find out more about her quirks, however, I decided to throw some random questions at her:
Stevie: What's in your stocking at Christmas?
Christy: Anything my aunt can think of....and hopefully some cash ;)

Stevie: If you were a superhero, what would be your super power?
Christy: Flying... I ain't got no money for a plane ticket! Though something like telekinesis would be pretty cool too.

Stevie: Three things that most people don't know about you:
Christy: See I could tell you, but then that would just ruin the mystery ;)

Stevie: How will you defeat the monster under your bed?
Christy: He's been afraid of me for years, so he just kinda hangs out and leaves me alone now.

Stevie: THINK FAST. Sam or Dean? (Refer to the devilishly interesting show, Supernatural, covered in Angela Zhang’s article)
Christy: Dean...shirtless…

Stevie:  … I must agree with you there.
Stevie: Before you go to sleep, you get a text message from your best friend. What does it say?
Christy: Something about a Korean guy who I think just looks like Justin Bieber but with black hair and a tan...

Sarah: KIM BUM DOES NOT LOOK LIKE JUSTIN BIEBER!
Christy: *nods patronizingly at Sarah*

Stevie: Last thing you think of before falling asleep:
Christy: What day is it again?

Kim Bum
(he does not look like Justin Bieber)

From her answers, we can certainly see Christy’s fun side.  As an artist, she knows how to paint her life the way she wants – yet as a student, she can still try out new patterns, new designs, and new themes.  I'm glad to be working with her, and I can already see that she will help shape EAL into a work of fine art.
